Diagnosing a bad power transformer

Post by 313guitars » Sun Sep 12, 2010 1:36 am

Hey guys,

I've been having some issues with my 100w plexi kit. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to figure if my PT is no good.

Symptoms are:

- The amp is about 1/4 as loud as my JCM 800 100w head at full volume
- I have a very audible hum coming through the speakers that sounds exactly like the PT hum when turned on
- The first few months I had the kit together the Mains fuse blew almost anytime I tried a new power source.
- The amp sounds pretty great though other than the really high noise ratio. Lots of hiss.

I'd be grateful for any input.

Thanks,

J-C
