Kiwame (Japanese) carbon films
Anyone tried these in a build? I hear they sound like old CC but without the drift and noise.....

That's why I was asking I was reading on the Amp Garage and one builder says they sound awsome. They are $1.00 each here in the US at DIY Electronics but I may contact Nic @ Ceritone and see if he can get some since he is close to were they are made. I was looking for a higher quality CF resistor something closer to Allen Bradleys but without the drift and high price. I came up with Ohmlite "Little Devels", these, are there any others?

Geez! Isn't that just typical? I swear, we should stop admitting that we like anything. As soon as we do it's no longer available.
Are we supposed to start stockpiling Ohmite resistors and Sprague Atom caps now?
Why bother, in a year or two Vishay will own every electronics brand name worth owning. They are the Clear Channel of the electronic world.

I used kiwames in my 18 watt build. The amp sounds fantastic and very quiet! I bought them through Parts ConneXion. Has anyone tried the ohmite liitle demons? They are cc and still available.

I'm guessing that's HiFi Collective.Wicksy wrote:Hmm, this has got me interested. I have found a place in the UK that sells them. Expensive relative to US prices but domestic shipping rather than across the Atlantic should even that out.
I just placed an order this morning to try them in my Valve Junior since I was about to put a replacement PTP board in it anyway.
I figured it's a cheap way to see what the fuss is about. There's so little in the VJ that anything changed makes a difference so it's a good little test-bed before blowing out on buying enough for a 100 watter.

But the green resistors on your attached foto aren't CC's - they are metal oxide's.sam wrote:...and Kiwames looks good too

That's exactly what I thought - the 5W ones look identical to the Welwyn WMO5S series, except in green.novosibir wrote:But the green resistors on your attached foto aren't CC's - they are metal oxide's.
They claim, however, that they are carbon film with cored silicon:

They look like Metal oxide but they are actually CF, and quite high quality. It seems all the HIFI tube builders are using them. I think I might order a few to try out. The 2w version handles 1000V and the 5w handles 1200v, I did notice they have a German distributor........
