This is Duke’s suggested spec but with a 1n bright cap.CoffeeTones wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 11:41 amNo idea what you have now, but sounds like maybe a 250p treble cap and / or peaker combo addition.

In that case, try 220k // 1n instead of 470k // 470p pre pot, or maybe 3k3 instead of 2k7 cathode resistor on one of the stages. If you have a 2n2 CC, maybe bump that up.

Will try some tomorrow. All CCs are .022.CoffeeTones wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 2:39 pmIn that case, try 220k // 1n instead of 470k // 470p pre pot, or maybe 3k3 instead of 2k7 cathode resistor on one of the stages. If you have a 2n2 CC, maybe bump that up.

I think I'v tried every combination know to man by now...... nothing seems to stick. Duke's spec sounds really good and there's a few others that sound ok but I'm not quite getting the right clonk for SCOM. Maybe my ears are føkked by now.....CoffeeTones wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 2:39 pmIn that case, try 220k // 1n instead of 470k // 470p pre pot,

I always thought 250p33k TS sounded great for scom, but that was with a 5n bright.

I keep going back to the 5n... it has that nice full sound and grit. It’s been in and out 3 times today...... 250p, 500p, 1n, 2n2 and the 5n. In any combination with the 470k and over the 470k or 220k...... I fear the pots are gonna cave in soon because of all the soldering....
Oh well, I’ll have to lift the board again then..... hope I don’t break anything.

You dont have to lift the board, just take the wire out from the treble pot tape it off, and run a new wire with a 250p on one side, just tack it to the far side of the 500p at the TS should work ok for a test.gluke wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 10:35 amI keep going back to the 5n... it has that nice full sound and grit. 3n3 bright works well in these specs too. All said and done, it's what makes you happy with the amp. It has to feel right and sound good too. There's a point where the amp is easier to play and you can hardly miss a note on the guitar because of it. That is when you have it just right.gluke wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 10:35 amI keep going back to the 5n... it has that nice full sound and grit. No doubt your ears are tired. A few days rest and you will hear things totally different. That is where we can help by listening to the clips. What I heard missing in the last clips was the raunchy edge and thickness in the bottom end mostly. If the 5n does the trick for you, so be it. Since you have the amp so close to the tone, I'd tweak mostly with a combination of a few places - the pre gain peaker combo, bright cap, 2k7 to 3k3 // .68 cathode, and maybe the presence circuit. A presence circuit change would probably be too drastic with your current spec though.

Also you can disconnect from the treble pot, or cut the wire to splice another ~500pF in series to the original 470pF to 500pF and get 250pF. That way you never solder to the board or pot if you choose to splice the wire.dukeamps wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 11:15 amYou dont have to lift the board, just take the wire out from the treble pot tape it off, and run a new wire with a 250p on one side, just tack it to the far side of the 500p at the TS should work ok for a test.gluke wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 10:35 amI keep going back to the 5n... it has that nice full sound and grit. I did some clips this morning that I was going to post, but then I went on a complete modding spree and now I can’t remember what the spec in the clips is anymore.......CoffeeTones wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 11:26 am

I think the 250p clips sound good, but are a little too loose on the bass strings, the other clips sound good too, and have more bite. What do you think yourself ? If you could do a clip of scom with the 250p.gluke wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 2:07 pmSo here's the 250p treble cap:
