that's what I thought it sounded like. cone cry.
the metal oxides should be used for the droppers, use CF for plates, cathodes, CF, NFB, etc.

Interesting.... Yeah I guess it could be cone cry as the effect appears to be only noticeable at high volume. I'm running a 50w amp through a 2x12 closed back cab with Celestion Classic Lead 80's, so I wouldn't have thought I'd be pushing the speakers too hard, although it's still damn loud. Maybe the cabinet could also be contributing by resonating at a natural frequency or something.

Thanks, yeah most of my amp is carbon film. I've got carbon composition on the CF cathode (820R), the NFB and preamp B+ droppers as I liked the tone better.rockgod212 wrote:the metal oxides should be used for the droppers, use CF for plates, cathodes, CF, NFB, etc.

yep I bet that's it, a el34/6ca7 2203+ through cl80's is one brite sounding mother, im running a 50watt plexi through them. I run the presence off unless im using the .68u tames it a bit, but still brite as hell. try reducing your brite cap over the gain pot, that might help some. I tend to like a 780p with el34's instead of the full 1n. I would also run 47k@8ohm tap.

I noticed the same thing
I was going to break the silence, but I'm waiting on a couple more parts to arrive. So far I've changed out all the mica caps to X5F ceramics, except for the PI fizz cap which is a C0G. I've also been playing around with cathode bypass cap on the first and fourth stages. The next step is to re-tweak the presence cap/nfb.
One other hold up is that I need to re-fret my guitar after my 3 year old decide to take to it with a hammer from my nearby tool bag. The 12th to 14th frets of the G and B strings now have a nice slice in them from where the strings have impacted.

That's pretty amazing that you have a 3 year old who's already experimenting with different "tapping" techniques...BRMSlash wrote:I noticed the same thingI was going to break the silence, but I'm waiting on a couple more parts to arrive. With over 9,700 posts and a lot of amps built it's not really surprisingUnique wrote:...crickets...

Well, let me rev it back up. I know it sounds crazy, but I met a guy that has been playing for about 25 years. From what he describes and is supposed to bring me, he may have the SIR #36. If it turns out to be so, I'll be sure to let everyone know. I don't have it or the serial number yet. It's also possible that it is not so, but I don't think anyone knows where that amp went, do they?
