This is so cool!

I remember when The pre-afd Hunter burst surfaced a couple of years ago.

From what he describes and is supposed to bring me, he may have the SIR #36. If it turns out to be so, I'll be sure to let everyone know. I don't have it or the serial number yet. It's also possible that it is not so, but I don't think anyone knows where that amp went, do they?
Yes that might work

If it is indeed #36, I hope you share details  I would love to know how close, or far my amp is from the original. :)

What I can't understand, is whoever does have it, why have they been silent for so long. I'm sure they are an amp fan, and has probably read about this amp on the internet somewhere.

I always thought one of three things; Either Slash had it locked away in a vault, waiting until the perfect time to use it. Then they did the AFD100, so I knew that wasn't the case. If not him, I thought maybe Frank took it with him when he left S.I.R. and has always had it in his possession. Or, I thought it was possible that someone had bought the amp long ago, and probably hardly used it, thus, keeping it in storage for all this time not really knowing what they have.

I hope it is the real amp, I would love to hear about the internals, as well as history of it. Finding this amp would be about as cool as finding a 1959 Burst in grandma'a closet that uncle Ralph bought when he was a kid, only to give up the guitar before he ever learned to play.

As always, I'll be lurking in the background awaiting to hear the news.

Is it a #39 mod? That what it sounds like to me.

No problem. A friend asked Caswell if he knew the amp, and he said that it looks to be one he modded right after he left S.I.R, and that it is either the #39 mod , or another one that is very similar.

It's nice to see some action in this thread again. There's some pretty interesting news.

So I've been playing around with ceramics and also trying different types of cathode bypass caps. My main aim was to improve the high frequencies. In regards to ceramics I liked X5F's for the bright, mixer and treble caps. But for the treble peaker and treble bleeds I preferred Y5R's or Y5P's. For the cathode bypass caps on 2nd and 3rd stages I thought I'd try and mimic the types that I could see in the #34 amp from the Marshall AFD100 investigation videos. I wasn't sure what the 2nd stage one was, but I guessed maybe a Mallory150 as it gives a bit of sweetness, and the 3rd stage cap looked like a tropical fish. I'm trying to use current production parts, so I substituted a 225p orange drop for the tropical fish. The 225p added a significant amount of usable brightness which I liked.

Here's a clip below. I haven't played for a while and it's pretty cold today, so my playing is more off than usual :)

I just scored a SRV2000 on ebay. It was going for $100 and I offered the seller $50 expecting to get declined. To my surprise my offer was accepted. Score!!!
