I put a Marstran Dagnall clone in my 12xxx and I have George's in my Metal Panel. Because the amps have slightly different specs and different tubes, I can't accurately compare them, but both are awesome. The only real comparison I have for George's is against the NewSensor crappy OT that Hoffman sells... needless to say, the upgrade was very noticeable.

Thought that looked like the Dagnall clone in there....no sticker to go by, just the 1.5" core. Not to hijack, but I'd like to play your amp one more time before I send it back Steve.........the Dagnall clone sounds killer in there!!! :D :D
play away brother! I thought most of you guys that build amps with Georges stuff had used the Dagnal clone OT? it really sounds killer, I just thought that amp should have more gain on the lower vol, numbers, but I am happy with the tone once its turned up, bluze

I listened to the clip,it sounds really really good! that amp has more of a natural Marshall rock sound,it really breaths, you can hear the 3d depth in there, did you add any effects with pro tool program when you recorded the clip?

My Super Bass has an early Dagnall clone, but the power supply is the '69 style with lowered filtering -- it still sounds different than the '67.

I just meant it was the standard '69 amp, with lowered filtering values (50/32/32/16/16 from mains to preamp) and I hacked out the 56K balancing resistors across the screens. Getting rid of those resistors made a noticable difference in the sound of this amp, the ghosting dropped substantially.

I think I've only got the two 1.5K's on that one still.

I hadn't been playing that amp much the last few months, but I've been getting into its sound again lately the last couple of weeks. I added the .68uF boost cap back on it, and it's got a really big "clean" overdrive sound. I'm thinking about 47K feedback resistor instead of the 27K now......

Its interesting how Mark [rockstah]runs his amps with the tone stack 500pf and 33k slope resistor, instead of a 250pf 56k, is that a stock set up Marshall did at one time? bluze
