Here is the 36 spec that started it all off, the one with the 2 10ks, well my version from it.

Gain 2 question. Gain 2 is presumably to act as a voltage divider for the added gain stage. I'm seeing some layouts (duke and others) this is just a 1 meg pot with no resistor feeding it. Ceriatone has a 470k feeding it. What is the correct way?

AFD spec. Some crappy cell phone clips, with hack playing. Just couldn't play smooth while recording. A lot of non Slash / AFD equipment used. Some random sounds too.

These clips are not great, but I think this generic player sounds bad, so it might be a little better to download and listen on your system.

That sounds pretty good Coffee! At times it sounded like some harsh highs coming through, but that could be due to your phone, or possibly you have, what sounds like to me, a slightly microphonic tube in there somewhere. But that's hard to tell from a recording. I just hear what sounded like some traits of that coming through. All in all, I think your pretty darn close, if not there, and the amp sounds really good. It has all the right character in there, even with it being recorded with a phone, you hear it. I bet it sounds better in person. Good job!

It was enough to listen to the first recording to notice the dynamics and the sustain that the equipment has, it can be seen in the chords that you released

Great tone, Coffee!! :toast:

Thanks

A couple of things I may change.

1. I have a 39k slope resistor from a previous mod. I left it in just to see if it worked out. That adds highs and pulls lows compared to 33k. Can cause ice picks in some specs. That is the only odd ball part in the spec. Surely I will change that value.

2. Ceramic plate snubbers in place. Mica should be smoother. May change those out some day.

Can't change these parts easily, but the amp has all Xicon film resistors which have a harsh sound that can also sound microphonic. Not likely I'll go through the trouble.

Phone recordings always accentuate the highs of any sound.

Thanks, just learned some of those song parts in the last week and it shows. Maybe they will become more natural with time and practice.

Could be just the recordings, but it needs more bottom and has a nasty spike in the high mids. Try and keep the camera about 5m away from the amp.

After all this years, all the spects, components values and soldering its good to take a moment off and go back on our own steps.
Today my #36 mod i consider to be more accurate to the original and really good sounding in a live amp but what i've recorded a few years back in this clip i've posted isnt far for today spects and it sounds REALLY close to me, considering thats its not recorded in any studio and with a 2010s sm57 !!
