I was just fooling arround with a video program and made a small clip of one of my amps. This is my first live video so be gentle...

I had a cab and a mic in the closet to keep the volume down, I totally screwed up the sync so I included pics of the amp instead.

Very interesting clip. Sounds like it is variac'd or goosed somehow?

I have a number of twin pot Marshalls from Metro JTM45 (66 spec) , '67 JTM50 and '68 JMP50 (Lead 1987) and 2204s.

The '67 has surprising amounts of gain for a tube rectified shared cathode amp (nearly as much as the '68 which is split cathode with diodes) particularly when you set everything on 8 except the bass and unused volume pot - both on 3. The 2204 has plenty of rich gain too when you crank both gain and master, but none of them quite as much as that amp in those clips. Of course they also need fairly hot humbuckers too (my Les Paul with Bareknucles Mule in the neck and BB3 in the bridge can supply that). Your labels also say 1986 in some places nd 1987 in others?

Well I've had some stock 2204's that are at least (if not more) gainy when cranked hard, but that sure is one aggressive sounding bass amp (moreso than my 2204's - even my current modded version). That's gotta be a lead circuit. The turretboard certainly looks like one at a glance...

No variac... love to have one just a closet full of shoes and clothes. SM57 into an iRig Preamp and a iPhone 4. There is a bit of compression in this setup (both in the preamp and as you upload to you tube) not a real recording environment. I done no eq or any other sound postproduction as I only have a laptop with no real speakers. I am just starting to experiment with these mobil rec-things, but it captues the essens of the this great amp. The amp is pretty much stock had a master at one point. Here are the pics again. I can take closer ones if needed.

That's one brown sounding head. No wonder though.... What value is the v1b cathode resistor? 820ohm or 2.7k?

Maybe it is in your hands but I cannot get mine to sound quite like that (will have a fiddle this weekend).

I see that you were plugged into the amp we see in the vid, and you were not re-amping into the cab to your left which had a mic on it, so the mic was where?

I thought i wrote that. It is not the cab the head is sitting on that I use it is in the closet nearby, too loud otherwise.

The guitar has original T-tops in it and they are usually around 7-7,2 Ohms so they are pretty weak. This amp starts to break up very early much earlier than any of my other 50watters or 100watters. As I have told on another forum this is the ONE of my amps that are usually wanted as I rent out stuff to a few Studios. And a very well-known American guitar player have offered me some ridicules amount of money for this particular amp. He has recorded his last two albums with this. You probably heard this amp recorded but I am not allowed to tell you. I am just an amateur player but he can play, amagin that it sound good! The best story is when he had his assistant fly over here pick up the amp on a Friday and returning it next Sunday for a few overdubs!!!

It is tempting to try modding my JTM to spit cathode etc as I suspect it would be pretty close to yours like that, but it is too straight to mess with. My '68 SL gets pretty close to those tones when caned through two 4x12s but the noise is overwhelming.

Shame we cannot often get close to that magic recipe in such stock amps that often . My 68 50w has 820R on both V1 cathodes.

Sorry if I missed but are you attenuating? That's basically VH club days tone your having there bro. Another killer example here that you just have to dime a 68 plexi. Where is your normal channel volume set at?

Are the .68 chicklet caps on your amp stock? Interesting that if yours is a month earlier. Plexi's has mustard .68s and those cool tag boards off the PT.

No doubt this is a great sounding stock amp and another example that one certain Dutch artist was not blowing smoke that his amp was stock.

looks to be .0022 to me.

Is the difference between 500pf and 560pf audible? Just curious.
