fourth tube

Hi I built a jtm 45 plus kit it is in between a jtm 50 and a 45 ish.I have the feeback lop the pescence I think that is on a switch so I can get three diffent tones.but it has a split cathoe like a jtm 45 in 1965 1966.So my first question is in 1968 how musch different are the 50 waters from a jtm 50 with the soild state rectifier ? how is the tone different if at all and is there more gain ,and if so why.I am asking because I would like to make another clone and this time I was thinking of byoc brit 50 a 1968 50 watt clone.I have also a Marshall vintage modern,is this amp close to a jtm 45 in the pre amp section with a split cathode or is it more like the 50 w 1987 .Does the VM have a switchable added tube or am I just getting a boost with a diode or something compeletly else.I was thinking about on this next build doing a master volum on the 50 watt 1968 plexi and making it have hopefully on a switch on the front panel a toggle switch and be able to turn on and off the mod of the one wire mod.I really want that pushed very very hard scorpions sound like on no one like you or even judas preist the helian or screaming for vengens or dokken under lock and key album its not love or am I asking to much to do for a second build.I have built many pedals too from wha whas to delays and now a phser and a sub octive pedal . so I guess I need the few things told to me in a easyer way for me to understand and also what is the difference between the 50 watt plexi and the vintage modern in each mode high or the low I know that it is a newer marshall so it does not have the sweet sound my jtm clone does ,but my jtm clone can not even get close to the hair metal crunch Iam look for but it nails ac dc very well and led zeppelin too .Thanks

The Vintage Modern indeed has a 4th gain stage switched in when in HDR mode (I thinks it's called)

To get hair metal gain, all you need to do is cascade the treble and normal channels, you don't need to install another stage.

Suggest you implement the sdm 2 in 1 layout off his website.
If you are going to increase the gain much above standard 2204 use the alternative lead dress version.
We can talk you through the tweaking stages later.

Great I will look into that and take my time with it and do it much neater than my jtm is a bit messy with wires going all over but that was my first amp build
