Marshall 1987x Cascade Mod - Possible To Make It Switchable?

Post by MrRGecko » Sun Dec 17, 2017 5:24 pm

I'm taking my 1987X to my tech again tomorrow to do a couple mods. I'm having him put the stock bright cap and and 100pF cap on Volume I on a push/pull and then having him put the coupling caps (.0022 & .022) on a switch to emulate the Friedman "fat" switch.

I was wondering if the cascade mod can be put on a switch too? If so, how?
If not, does the amp retain its stock tones without the empty jack plug in the Vol I lo input or is it gainier from the get-go?

Alternatively, I could get him to put the bright caps on a switch and if possible the cascade mod on a push-pull maybe?

Is there that much difference between the cascade mod and just hitting it with a pedal?

Any help would be great!

It is possible to put the cascade on a switch but your tech might charge quite a bit for it. What are you hoping to achieve? Are you not happy with the stock tone?
