Never realised he was so slick. Almost made me dig out old Danger Danger albums, but then as I got up I remembered just why I buried 'em in the first place.
I may have to dig a bit deeper into his stuff tho'!

i was never into him when he was with Danger - hes gotten a lot better anyway.

I was at the NAMM show in the late eighties and he worked Kramer I think . They made him just stand there and be the stereotypical shredder. Thats some great tone he has now though.

the laney sounds pretty decent too. Andy is kind of a local here in the Metroplex. He sits in with Satriani & Vai when they come to town. I got to sit right in front of him awhile back when he played the dance rehearsal studio across the street from the Bass (theater) here in Fort Worth. I think he's pretty underated. A pretty versatile guy really. I wrote him an email earlier this year & told him how much I liked "Resolution" he was kind enough to respond.

Timmon's can hold his own on ANY level I think. I mean, if your faster than him, it probably wont be by much, or if your more melodic it wont be by much. That dude is just geeereat !(I'm thinking Tony the Tiger !) I think his biggest thing is that he is 'tasty' and has great note selection.

I've had Andy's last cd for some time now. It's fresh everytime I hear it. I like how he makes an instrumental melody interesting by turning the phrase a little differently each time he plays it.

I've always thought that this forum is more of Van Halen and Hendrix fans.

Now I see Andy Timmons and Michael Landau in one thread. Add Jeff Kollman and Doyle Bramhall II and there ya go, my top 4!

Anyways, that Laney doesn't sound anything close to what Andy's new mesa rig sounds like. The tone started from him using a 1959 of some era and late 70's JMP master volume simultaneously. They both were fed with a TubeWorks Tubedriver and an Echoplex (yeah, before the amp front end that is). Later Mesa people built the Lonestar which was really close to what the Resolution album sounds like. Andy had friends there in Mesa and he was one of the first to try it out and it was perfect for him. Now he runs Lonestar and Stiletto in couple and damn does it sound good.

The most important part of his tone without a doubt is he's hands. I've taken down some slower parts of he's songs and it takes lot's of time and listening to sound like him. But it's possible to come 100 meters close. I've played the Mesa Lonestar but I didn't sound much more like Timmons than I did with my own plexi rig and he sounds sweet with Laney, Marshall, Mesa... you name it. Gotta be fingers there.
