I'm sure the mic on the camera isn't the greatest...

Could you be a bit more descriptive?

ok.

as you said: mindless noodling.
think about phrasing & tone building.

there is no reason to make that public.

The tone building part is going to be a battle because I'm playing through a Line 6 amp.

I guess I should have edited this to just include the particular lick I was working on.

I'll take this as an opportunity to post something better.

Can you give an example of what you would consider good phrasing?

Tone building has nothing to do with your equipment. Its the relation between Imagination, mind and your fingers.
Can you give an example of what you would consider good phrasing?
all of the good guitarplayers do good phrasing. Santana, Wes Montgomery, Larry Carlton, Steve Vai, Robben Ford, and so on.

check out the video from scott henderson: Melodic phrasing
Its really great an it will give you all the stuff you need to work on a good phrasing.

Stay tuned!

I have been playing guitar for almost twenty years now, and have never heard of the term 'Tone Building'.

Sounds like just using your imagination.

Phrasing to me, is just building the solo based on peices or licks that move the music forward. Like everyone says, it's like constructing a story and using words to form paragraphs, ect.

But like I and you said; the title of the vid was mindless noodling.

cheers!

I think the camera mic is destroying the tone a bit, but I liked your playing on that clip, very nice :) !

You should've heard it before I turned the amp down! The mic was getting distorted as hell.....

Stupid built in mic....

your sound got crumbled by the cam mic, but the solo piece was neat. cool ass looking strat from what i could see of it. i also like your analogy of music just as creating a good story, or like being a great painter vs paint by numbers say.
