As I embark on the first of (hopefully) many builds, I would love to hear some 45/100 clips. I've searched this forum, You Tube and Google, but I still haven't heard enough to get a real sense of this amp. Any help, websites, direction would be much appreciated.

Man, those are some fantastic clips! Were your 45/100s dimed out for those clips? They all seem to have a perfect amount of break up.

How do you like running the amp with el34s versus kt66s?

I have a second 45/100 with el34s and the 1202-119. now clips of that amp yet.
for the most part, the amp settings were: bright vol 6: mids: 5-7; treble 9-10, presence 5-8. the esq was normal ch at 10. the real distorted stuff is a byoc tribooster in the brightest setting. I'm not happy with sound that the flat battery gave

Play the "JTM45_100vsSuperPA" clip, it's one of my 45/100 clones on the right going first against my Super PA JTM100 clone (a PA version of a 45/100) on the left going second.

Outstanding. That totally nails the J. Page-Heartbreaker solo tone.

Great, great playing, and great tone too. Which of your Metro builds did you use for your Unchained clip?

Flames, that sounds incredible! Could you share more about the setup for that recording regarding, speakers, volume setting, etc ?

I'll try, I didn't take notes of anything, but I did snap a picture:

Image

Both amps were just set up where I liked them individually. My Super PA is usually something like presence 3, bass 2, middle and treble 10, Volume I 8-1/2, other three volumes on 5. Its cab is loaded with two Weber Silver Bells and two Weber Pre-Rola's, and I don't know which was miced, I'd forgotten how they were laid out. The JTM45/100 (temporarily in the white head case) was set a little lower on the volume knobs but I can't remember the exact settings. The white cab has two Celestion G12H30 reissues (not the expensive ones, the cheaper ones that came out first) and two Weber Silver Bells, and again, I don't know which was miced since I'd forgotten how they were laid out.

Recording gear was the two Oktava MK319 condensers in the picture, about eight inches away from the grille cloth and a couple of inches off from center of the speakers they were micing. Those ran into an SM Audio PR8 preamp, an M-Audio Delta 44 interface, into Sonar, witha little reverb added but no messing with EQ or anything.

Hi
Really nice clips

The first clip starts on my stereo on the left side (not on the right)
JTM45_100vsSuperPA_1

Do I hear first(does it start with) the 45/100 or the super pa

Which output transformers are in those amps?

The 45/100 Lead goes first, whether the sides are switched or not.........

So the clip starts with the 45/100 with the 1204 43 set to 560 vdc and the 1202 84 with kt66(NOS)- darker soundclip

against

the super pa
T2562 or 1203 80 set to 490vdc
with the C1998

is that right
are those marstran or metro transformers

I like the amp that starts in the 1 clip a little more(45/100)
I like it dark and fat. Is this a (45/100) with kt66 or el34 tubes.

Would love to hear your dual rectifier black flag amp to.
(is the black flag as dark as your 45/100)

Thank you for the nice clip(I like your playing )
8)

Both of these amps had the earlier Metro power tranny, 1204-43 with no choice of secondary voltage taps. They pretty consistently put out 530VDC on the power tube plates.
The 45/100 Lead had the Metro 1202-84 OT with the reissue "Gold Lion" KT66 tubes. The Super PA has a Marstran 1202-84 with reissue "Tung Sol" KT66's.
I could have set the 45/100 Lead brighter I suppose, I just set them how I personaly liked them -- but it clearly had a more intense midrange grind/honk going on than the PA. Both are still a lotta fun though.
I had a clip of the dual-rectifier "Black Flag" on a different computer, which croaked, and I haven't gotten all the stuff recovered off of it yet. It's definitely more similar to the 45/100 Lead, with the extra crunchiness of EL34's. Seems a little brighter in the room, but I'd have to set up a little comparison clip sometime to really get the differences made clear.
