Dear forum members,
i just discovered this Marshall 100JH demo, which has been recorded really professionally and to my ear does sound fantastic AND the player knows his stuff too. Here's the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-0ROsDM2rs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I post this because i've been reading the threads on the 100JH and it's comparison to Metro and other clones, kits, etc. and many people who have tried both claim that the high quality clones sound better than the 100JH. Listening to this clip and the tone that Andy Aledort gets on the Hendrix instructional DVD's for Axis and Electric lady land, i'm wondering - what is "better" or different with the tone of say Metro clones or Metropoulos amps compared to the 100JH? (it's just that i find this tone to be VERY good and it's hard to imagine an improvement). Of course, i've been spoiled by the authentic amp porn here on the site and the 100JH innards are in no way inspiring in comparison to anything i have seen here on the forum and all the amps here "look" like they will sound better But, the 100JH sounds great (despite it's somewhat perverted layout, etc.) and to my ear the recording setup seems to be very representable of the amps tone.
Please tell me what you think guys, i'm very interested in your opinions.
Regards,
VintageCharlie

That sounds very good. With Marshall you never know what you'll be getting, I not too long ago played a Superlead and it was the brightest amp I have ever heard and sounded really thin. I have never heard a bad sounding Metro. Metro also has the top of the line customer service too!
Now only if there was a full 45/100 kit....

You don't really need a kit. There's some comprehensive parts lists in the 45/100 journal. You just have to invest some time to put all the right parts together. In kit form these parts also wouldn't be cheaper, i think.

Awhile back I went through all of those and put together a parts list and where to get the parts from, I gave that list to the rhythm guitarist in my band as he wanted a 45/100 so he'll probably build one eventually.

clips sounds pretty good but its really noisy and the bass is mushy when he turns up. alot of jtms will sound that good or better. I dare to say that my metro with marstrans and nos parts sound even better

Re: found a great 100JH clip on youtube
These amps were meant to be played at Coliseums. LOUD !
Moving a lot of air...THAT is where The TONE is.
A germanium sunface, vibe and a stack'o dimes helps too

The reviewer seems to have bleeding ears and the pain is literally painted in his face (looks like it's done in a pretty small room too). But i was surprised - the difference between a JTM-45 and a 45/100 should be no more than 3db, right? Somehow from the clip i got the impression that it's quite a bit louder than that
