im leaning towards the heritage g12m as well - stans clip was kind of the confirmation for me - i wish the BX cabs didnt have the particle board backs. i would buy the one i had a lead on right now i think it had heritage... umm maybe the vintage though now that i think about it... i need a cab heh
The heritage G12M speakers are the best of the best IMO. Sounds identical to the pre rola's I had last year.

Those sound wicked.
Wish I'd afford a Metro some day.

I think Sylvania 6ca7's, G12M's and PB backs will sound better.....

This may have been asked already but do the new Marshall HW cabs have a plywood or particle board backs?

Good question. If they were going to be accurate, I would say no since some of the cabs were PB and some were Birch. I think the Hand Wired series is birch. Mine is from the mid 70's so it is PB. I prefer PB for the tone I am going after. Hope this helps. Jim @ Southbay Ampworks would know for sure as he is a Marshall cab expert as well as a Celestion guru at re-producing pre rola type speakers.

Wait is this 12001, 12005 or ?

very nice *boing* how'd you record this ?
(cheater... left out the part about the echo.)

Can you get your hands on some 6402's?

12001.

This clip is from the 12000 section when I built the amp but clips seem to get lost over time. Thought I'd stick it here.

Yaeh, I have a quad of 6402's. No cab for them yet.

Just used a mic called a Blue Yeti in front through Audicity. Added tiny bit of reverb and delay on one side. Yeah, has lots of boing.

I really like that clip as well, its just a great demonstration of Ed's early 12xxx tone. My amp has alot of similarity in tone to yours, maybe because I got the kit right after yours  . I like the Allen bradley resistors and standard sozo's(though I have about 4 different brands of caps in mine at the moment), the Mullard reissue 12ax7's, suprisingly, are also sounding better than all the others I've had in there. I got the standard 'green hobbit' EH el-34's in mine, great tubes. I'm gonna get some of the reissue EH 'Mullard' el-34's at some point to try, as Iremember thats what you got in yours.
Also, I recall that you used a couple other guitars on your initial clips (Blue Yeti clips). That swamp ash KnE 'VH1' strat records VERY well. Nice sounding axe for sure

Yup, those are all re-issue Mullards that George gave you the option to purchase with the kit. Thats the VH1 swamp ash guitar as well with an old Fender steel block. Stewmac 12k PU.

Thats a 12k StewMac zebra thats in my KnE in my avatar. Nice pu for sure. I got it based on these 'Blue Yeti' clips you posted in the basement (the same 'DTNA' clip) . It sounds better than the DSD in that particular guitar.

The PU is also a good 1/4" or more from the strings.
