Agree ! That album NEVER fails to inspire me. Everytime I think I know what Marshall tops he's using, I'm thrown off by new evidence. I was under the impression that Schenker last used the old small logo top/s on the 'Obsession' album, switching to the rocker switch JMP 1987's for the tour ('Which would be the amps used on 'SITN'). I've recently seen some live '78 pics where there is the older head being used. Makes sense to me, Schenker 'basically' sounded the same in the UFO yrs. By the time of his first solo album though, his tone had changed a hair, never to return to the UFO sound.

Definatly he never had that sound again after UFO. Theres something about those old 50 watt superleads and a flying V. Thats why I went with a 50 watter when I had my custom plexi made. The 100 watt heads sound fantastic with a Les Paul. But the Vs sounded best with the 50 watt version. It was something Michael stumbled on and it sounded fantastic.

Yeah I agree. I love the Explorer (which is veeeery similar sounding to a V, hell maybe even I wouldn't know the difference in a blind test) through a 50W much more than a 100W. It's just that sweet but rich and heavy sound.

I definately have a future 50 watt build in store. I love my 100 watter and can get pretty much any of my fav. Marshall tones on it,but I need something to do, so a nice late '60's-early '70's era 50 watt clone is highest on my 'Next amp build' list

Hey Tone Slinger, not trying to derail your thread but, (since you're talking about Michael and wah pedals) have you or any of the other guys here used any fixed wah pedals like the Keeley Nova Wah, and if so what were your impressions good or bad?

I havent used one yet. I need to. I think there is a Morley that George Lynch endorses that has that rotary/click knob that selects certain sweet settings. I have an old (well, not TOO old) Crybaby. Its an '87. I need to replace the pot in it. I always found that the crybaby's have a sweeter tone for certain slower sweeps and fixed positions, but the vox has the better 'whicka-whicka' ('Shaft'&'Papa Was a Rolling Stone') type thing. What are the best replacement pots ?

If Mike Fuller of Fulltone still sells them, and you can acquire one, then go for the Fulltone wah pot.
