Does anybody for sure know if Brian Robertson in Thin Lizzy used 25W or 30W Celestions in his cabs in the 70´s? I know that sites like Guitargeek states that he used 25W Greenbacks but he used three 100W Super Leads volume on 6 on one 4x12 each. Could the 25W really handle that.
I got some old interviewa with Brian and all that is said about speakers is that he used 4x12´s. Seems all that mattered back then was how much the speakers could handle not how they sounded.

I wish I knew, but I'd say probably 25's. Those were used more in the '70's as compared to anything else, concerning Marshall amps. Then again, Thin Lizzy (Both Robertson and Gorham) got a pretty 'tight' chunk happening on that 'Live And Dangerous' stuff. Doesnt the 30 watters have that slightly tighter low end when pushed ? Maybe they were using the 30 watters.

Scott Gorham was using Marshall 2x12 combos in 77-78. Don´t know if they were 50W or 100W or with or without master volumes. Don´t know what types of Celestions were in the marshall combos in the late 70´s.
Was the 25W the most common speaker in Marshall 4x12´s in the 70´s like the 75W Celestions is today.
In an article i´ve read from 79 or 80 (Before the first album was eleased anyway) about gear in Wild Horses it said that Robbo used three MkII Super Leads and one 100W cab on each.

Yeah, the 25 watters were the MAIN Marshall guitar speaker up until they 'discontinued' the 25 watter ('78 or '79 I think). The 30 watters were used for the bass amps mainly, though 'interchanging' was done frequintly I guess, meaning, some guitarist used the bass cabs.
I know for a fact that Schenker used the 25 watters with UFO, though he ran a full stack (with 2 as spares). Same with Matthias Jabs and Rudolph Schenker.
Keep this in mind, Eddie Van Halen recorded the first Van Halen album with his main head (12xxx 100 Marshall) into a lone 4/12 slant cab with pre Rola 25 watters.
