Schenker tone question

Post by EJSLPlexi » Sun Jan 06, 2013 11:21 am

Does any MS fans know for sure what michael is using pickup wise in this vid?
I am not sure if this one is loaded with the dean DMT lights out pu's or not? all i do know is that it is fat and screamin but still very vocal. really sweet tone for a guitar into a marshall :rocker:

marshall 2210 is where it's at IMO (delay in the loop of course) - great lead tone for sure

Michael uses the 50 watt version (JCM 800 2205). I like those amps and the last revision of that circuit ('88 to '90 I think) were the best of those models (2210, 2205). Still, you get a pretty compressed 'buzz' to power chords that I dont like, BUT, many guy's do. I prefer the 2203 and 2204 JCM 800's myself, though alot of guy's like the extra gain and effects loop (the clean channel is almost a joke on those things) of the 2210, 2205.

I think Michael would be better off with a Jcm 2000 DSL or better yet, one of his vintage 50 watters being cranked or attenuated.

I agree wiht TS! These amps (2205 2210) are worse sounding than 2204 marshalls IMO, especially for chords, but have more overdive (diodes distorting) on tap which is a good thing for solos...oh and the loop comes in handy for delays and solo volume boosts. I owned a late 80's 100 watt combo (100% stock) of that type and didn't like it - it was lacking low end and punch, but a friend of mine owned a 100watt top (the same features - 2 channels, reverb, loop - 2210 I guess) and that top was nice - very close to the sound MC pulled out on that clip....

John Norum Also likes the late '80's circuit 2205. Leads really have a great 'zing' to them with those amps (both late '80's 2210 & 2205 models). Michael actually brought one of his own 2205's for 'That Metal Show' and didnt rent a new Marshall like most other guests do (like Vinnie Moore or Steve Stevens, etc). But, like Stef has said, those amps lack a bit of bottom end, and sound 'boxed' in rhythm wise. The 2204/2203 have the better tone, ESPECIALLY when you put a ppimv on them (mod5  ).
