Tone Slinger wrote:Agree I do :D . I too like Lang, and though his vocals may not be 'Early Gregg Allman on a good day ' level, I think he is by far a better singer than Bonamassa. John Mayer...... well, he WRITES some interesting tunes, has great lyrics and melodies, but his actual vocals has that 'nassally' type thing that Gollum (Lord of the rings) has, just like igor or something  I actually LAUGH everytime I hear him sing, sorta like how I do at Axle Rose. He sounds like Edith Bunker
Yeah what's up with this raspy singin' shit nowadays? Kim Carnes, Rod Stewart, Johhny Lang, John Mayer, Joe Bonamassa, Axl Rose, etc., must be popular A? Axl Hoserod is the absolute WORST singer of all time, when he sings I want shoot at clay pigeons with his effigy on them, and yell "pull" LOL

bonamassa sings like the dude from bad company. that voice comes from the same "spot" - once you realize he sounds like that it's kind of wild to listen and compare in your mind the similarities and differences - i wonder if he thinks about it - i guess if you're going to sound like somebody, paul rodgers ain't so bad... nothing new under the sun!

The main issue seems to be that musicians need to be themselves and sing like themselves and not try to vocalize in another range. There is no better example than young wannabe divas, that try to (sing/sound) like Mariah Carey.

Yep, all those 'American Idol' type shows, all the girls sound like Mariah,or Kelly Clarkson or the country types sound like Carrie Underwood.
The main thing I hate about this 'younger generation' of singers is that it starts to sound like a damn animal the way they try to be TOO visceral. R&B/Soul is cool, ok, but there is that stupid little sound before words, like a diaphram moan or groan that really irritates me. Its a farce.
The problem is that singers have to try TOO hard to make weak melodies work by trying to be TOO visceral, etc.

Melody RULES !(but where has it gone)?

Zachary! That's the word that I use for Exactly. There's an old joke about a guy that goes to an oriental doctor, and the doctor gives the patient a proctology exam. Afterwards the doctor says, "Just like I thought you have Zachary disease" to which the patient replies, "What's that doctor?" and the doctor answers, "Your face looks Zachary like your ass" LOL

I just watched that vid. I'm sorry, (IMO) boner's got nothing if that's the best he can do. Really??? His vibrato bugs the fuk out of me. And what's with the flaming hemmoroids pain in his face? And he looks like the bad guy in the Matrix movies! Man, I'm really gonna have to fumigate that 45/100 he had.

Not to bag on boner but here is a friend and local guy from my old hood. This is the caliber of blues we were hearing in the corner bar. Johnny Gale...
