16 or 32 on the preamp?

Post by jfhudak » Mon Feb 16, 2009 8:30 pm

Hey Fellers,

I noticed on some builds y'all have a 32uf cap on the main board and on others it's a 16uf. What is the difference in sound? Does the 32 tighten things up a bit?

Thanks! ;)

16uf will give a looser feeling, sounds very open. perhaps just a tad ghosting.
32x32uf will sound a little tighter and stiffer. also the 10k resistor between the positive poles on the cap will reduce v1 voltages, giving a tad middier and more compressed sound.

most, if not all, originals used 16uf. 2-3 amps appers to have used a dual cap (32x32 or 16x16 or 20x20)

Yep, single 16uf seems most common.
