Re: Super Amp w/ no sound----pics
just off the top of my head...i'm wondering if the old ohm selector is any good.
Re: Super Amp w/ no sound----pics
Fuses in? Cap board grounded? Bus wire grounded ? Do you have voltages at the tubes? Probably something simple
I had a ground bus wire like you and had 1 strand of wire on the treble pot that was touching the bus wire and shorting out the signal.

Please--if you get a moment--can I see the power section, too? I know you are only using one wall voltage tap, but that end of things--power socket, PT, the wall voltage selector switch, etc.

The ohms selector MIGHT not be hooked uo 100% correctly. It should still have sound but I think the lug you have nothing going to is actually the 16ohm lug. Dont you have ohm selectors with 4 lugz instead of 5

Re: Super Amp w/ no sound----pics
It is probably a trick of the light but is the common wire of your selector properly soldered to the speaker jack (where the NFB wire is) I can see daylight in the lug.
Are the pins of your old style selectors clean and shiny and the bit they push into tight.
How are your voltages etc (sorry if you posted them elsewhere)?
Do you get any sound at all, even when you prod the preamp socket terminals to test the voltages?

Re: Super Amp w/ no sound----pics
i've been a complete lazy pc. of crap this w/e! i just now decided to check this
f 'er out again............
all tube socket voltages are cool. some of the pre-amp values are a bit high, perhaps. yes, i get the usual "static" thru the speakers when probing the
plate pins,etc.,etc.
i'm guessing human error! neikeel, i'll check out the spkr. jacks too.

bizarro world,man...........
i just plugged in and now i have sound!! v2a cathode wire is VERY static-ee.
cold solder joint?? that's probably the issue-- i'll resolder that
doggy tonight.
all the spkr. jack tabs are good. shiny solder joints.
i was just playing clean/low volume.... holy s*** that thing is so warm !!!!!
the tone is great. I think i spent my $$$ wisely building one of these. i love
it already!!!

Re: Super Amp w/ no sound----pics
ok, i think it's now good to go! sucked out old solder and used new wire, too.
shot some de-oxit on the selectors...should be good.....
no problems. thanks to all who have helped me out on this build!!! I'll be putting
'er thru the paces tomorrow!
it's a bit pompous, i guess, but this is my best build yet so,yeah...i'm showing it
off a little! Georges OT has the 100v tap...so i used an ohm selector that has the 100v tab too, little added touch!

Not at all in my opinion. Hell I made a freaking web page for my amp. If you're pompous then I'm shitler or something.lifer wrote:it's a bit pompous, i guess, but this is my best build yet so,yeah...i'm showing it

It is awesome to see what other people do. Yeah, sure we are building pretty much the same amps, but no two of them are 100% alike.
I remember when I was first getting into this, I would cruise for hours looking for build pics. I hope that somebody else finds my pics useful somehow too. Mistakes included...
