Trouble after putting in NOS Mustards

Post by Dom » Wed Dec 02, 2009 2:00 pm

Hi to all friends of troubleshooting,

I just swapped the Sozos by Mustards and the 47pF and 250pF caps as well.
But after firing the amp up it haven't done any noise, hiss or hum at all.

I checked the voltages of the preamp tubes and all preamp plates read around 500V, just as the power tubes.
I pulled out all tubes, because the voltage is way to high for the preamp tubes.

All preamp cathodes have zero voltage.
I checked the wires going from the sockets to the turrets and tested them by the multimeter touching the tips both the socket-pins and the according resistor / capacitor leg and the tester always showed a connection (in case if one underboard wire got loose because of soldering the top side).

I reheated and reflowed all solder joints of the upgraded locations to see if the problem goes away. But no advance.

Preamp filter cap is grounded on the ground side (I removed this one because of better access to the Mustard between treble pot and PI).
When touching the legs of the bias resistors and coupling caps, it was the only sound I got out of the amp.
Checked the voltage on both sides of the coupling caps, Both legs show around 64V Bias to ground.
And the other sides have logically the same as the other plates, around 500V.

Have anybody a suggestion what can be wrong ?
...Maybe I should retry it by using the Sozos again...

Cheers

Ok, I reinstalled the three .1uF Mustards by the Sozos and now the voltages are fine.
Does anybody know how to test caps?

Cheers
