oh, i never even realised that Roe did this cool page. i come to it quite often. do you have some links of clips that really present the true personality of this amp ?
anyway i formed a set of iskras and mustards 0,68uf etc for a later superlead style circuit.
got the metroamp 69, yeah, why not another version but i never really got into which other version i'd like. 68, really ? i'm not doing EVH stuffs really but i was interested to get mine just like EVH for fun, since the secrets of this amp have been revealed recently by George. it would certainly be a cool amp to have. brown sound is great too.

Different OT (1202-119 or -132) for a 45/100 EL34 amp and Drake 1203-80PT.

The 68 can be clean and bright at lower volumes but with the lower filtering and the C1998 has a lovely squishy compression and a surprisingly decent amount of gain. 69 ad on amps are cool but can be a little stiffer.

some recommendations on 45/100s:
- break in the amp
- try new or old genalex kt66s, not just shuguangs
- try the g12m 20w PVCs as they really are perfect for this amp

oh, some genalex are great ?

For now i'm arrived just where i needed, it's even better ! my clips don't do justice to it + it needs some more break in probably, as i played it only a few hours.
i'm not sure to need the 67 or 68 specs. it's true that i needed more saturation, cause the amp had a bug, but this isn't especialy my quest. but why not, i'd just need to hear some accurate clips of the 68 you're talking about, to see if it's going where i need.

about the genalex : does it sound different, or better ?

i also have some G12M 25w 75hz and 55hz pre rola pulsonic cones, will that do it ? :D

both the old and new genalex sound different and better than the shuguguangs, imho. all the genalex' I've tried have been great. the new ones are different from the old ones but still good.

the 25w g12m will do, but nothing beats the 20w PVC with these amps imho

Other options:
Gold Lion KT66
Original 20w T1221s in a pinstripe (although I confess not tried the PVC Scumbacks!)

I thought the Gold Lion were the new Genalex.

Yes they are and sound pretty good to me. I compared them with my GEC KT66s and they held up pretty well.

Great info !
Have you also tried the TAD KT66 ?
I have the Gold Lion and love them but they're the only KT66 I've ever played.

well, i have the 25w versions, pulsonic cones, lead and bass versions. i'd have to try someday.
i thought that these 2004 shuegang were particularly the closest to the gec kt66. later runs were different.
but it's good to know that the gold lion, TAD, and genalex are good to get, since they're not expensive i guess.

the TAD is made in China to TADs specs. Its not clear whether its a standard shuguang that's been selected or whether its a slightly different design. anyway, the TADs tend to sound slightly better than the ordinary shuguangs but not as good as the new genalex/gold lion.

I'm having the Gold Lion KT66's and I love them. Great tones. I won't bother trying other tubes (except for GEC's if I ever have the $$$) that might not make me as happy.

I've been playing a set of Shuguangs in my JTM45 for the last year, well beyond the amp's break-in and they've held up fine, but I just dropped in a set of Gold Lions on Thursday for a recording session this past weekend and WOAH!!! They sound quite a bit better, huge difference!
