Jimi's Strings

His guitar slung across his back, his dusty boots is his cadillac.

did jimi use only pure nickel wound strings? Or did he use nickel plated steel at the end of his career?

Band of Gypsies drummer Buddy Miles insisted that Hendrix used a very heavy E string, a medium gauge on his A and D, a Hawaiian G string, a light B, and a super-light E. This was supposedly not just for experimentation, but something Hendrix did because he thought the mixed gauges would keep the guitar in tune better. (Michael Bloomfield apparently tried some of the Hendrix Strats that Miles owned, and he was also a proponent of the mixed gauge theory.)

This makes sense to me as I'm a true lefty like Jimi (with the high E towards my toes) and one of my strats is a righty with the reversed headstock. In this scenario you have a whole new situation with your differing string tensions (Low E being the longest, High E being the shortest). Not only was Hendrix a musical savant, but a brilliant guy when it came to compensating and adjusting to make something work for him. Kind of like the subject of Abigail Yabarra's custom wound pickups having so little midrange, but it wasn't a problem for Jimi as he made those pups work for him.

Anyone know where I can get a 10-38 set of pure nickel strings? Snake Oil's site isnt working.

Snake OIl's been out of bidness for a while. Seems the proprietor burned one too many bridges. I heard nothing but tales of unfulfilled orders on TGP.

The fact is, there are tons of threads of people, many who were SOB fans, complaining about unfilled orders at TGP. People gave up waiting.
The fact is, I can't find a working website for snake oil strings. Google searches turn up nothing. If he's in business, he's doing a fine job being invisible to potential customers.

I tried Snake oils because they are the only pure nickle i could find and did not like the tone and they were stiffer than the fenders i use to get.
