James Marshall Hendrix

His guitar slung across his back, his dusty boots is his cadillac.

A friend recently hooked me up with a bunch of studio out takes of Jimi. Un-fuckin-real! It's crazy to hear how songs developed. And the raw guitar tracks. Red House without tape echo, for example.

Truly a genius.

I heard a pretty raw early Red House with an SG into a Fender.

Agreed, I would've truly loved to have been able to have hung out with him for at least a day, and in the end just express "thanks for sharing." Remarkable soul. I do really like each and every album that he put out while here, and find it a joy just to put headphones on and listen to the production put into his work. At the moment I can never get enough of Axis Bold As Love.

Live At Berkley is a gem if you hadn't heard it.

Really though, to be honest, two of my very favourite listens weren't even recorded as albums. They are chock full of some amazing playing as well. Check out...

Jimi Hendrix :blues
&
Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues: Jimi Hendrix

Both are filled with a tremendous accumulation of tracks that are just not a part of the mainstreamed Jimi experience & repertoire.

My favorite of the moment is Raw Blues, it is a 3cd set of outtakes that never made the "Blues" cd... I think it blows the doors off of the released version...

Nice!!!

hearing that raw stuff is like getting a glimpse of an artists ideas, which can be inspireing, even if it doesn't make the final cut.

IMO, in the late live performances, it seemed, JH played his older familiar
stuff like FIRE and so on, in a raw or an unsweetened way on purpose.

Again IMO.

The closest thing I have heard to the Hendrix tone has been through George's 45/100 flagship amp... it almost brought me to tears...

Its almost sacreligious to comment on this man. The mere mention of his name is enough. You say "Jimi", and literally everyone thats been near a guitar knows who you're talking about. My 12 year old nephew knows who Jimi is. My 80 year old PARENTS know who Jimi is. A four and a half year career, and its impossible to pick up a guitar mag, and not find mention of him somewhere. I had a dream about 5 years ago that I was walking along some railroad tracks, and Jimi was standing there. I remember being absolutely stunned at seeing him, and asked him how he could possibly come up with what he came up with. He didnt reply. He just smiled and touched the side of my face with his hand. I woke up at that moment, with a buzz going thru my body, thinking "what the hell was THAT??" It felt so REAL. THATS what Jimi was. THATS what he still does to people, at least to me. My hat is off to the man, and I lay my guitar at his feet. Period.

Jimi was ELECTRIC! He literally blew the roof off of people's heads.

And what a tone!

What a legacy!

Has anyone since been that charismatic?
