DIY Germanium Fuzz Face Help
I built an old NKT275 based fuzz, and it sounds terrible. I've checked the battery, and it's fine. It sounds like a huge bumblebee, really. Also, the notes fade with pitch change.

Ok, it's this schematic:
I used NTE 158s instead. Which bias are you referrring to? Sorry, I'm still learning!

Re: DIY Germanium Fuzz Face Help
NTE parts are not always the best but before we count out the transistors, change out the 8k2 resistor connected to Q2 for a 25k trimpot (or full sized pot if you want to use the bias control all the time, good idea with germanium). you can either adjust this control by ear or measure 4.5vdc at the collector of Q2 to set the bias. do you have any pictures of your build? could you measure & post the voltages on each transistor?
and since you've already built it i highly recommend giving this page a good read

Re: DIY Germanium Fuzz Face Help
What Spaceace76 says works great. I did put in a 25k trim pot which I set at 0 ohms and eventually just bypassed it for best bias. Also make sure the Q2 has the highest HFe.

Nevermind!
It would have helped if I was using the right pot for Fuzz!
Thanks for all your help, and I'll definitely add that 25k trimpot.
