Plexi Tones for Cheap - Bugera Head?

Post by theactor19 » Thu Sep 22, 2011 5:20 pm

Hey All,

So I've been on an amp quest to replace my Traynor Bassmate (combo with EL84s) for that superlead live hendrix tone. Of course I would love a Metro 12 000 series, but 3 grand would definitely break the bank.

I was doing some searching and found am amp company called Bugera. They have their take on a superlead at an insane price. MusiciansFriend has is going for $350 right now:

If it can get pretty close.. $350 is a steal. So I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with Bugera... specifically this amp. Would love to get some opinions on it.

thanks!

They sound pretty good.
But I would suggest building your own, if you feel like you could manage. You could get a lot of help here, just you'd want to be comfortable with it. You can pretty much do any price range by building your own.

You can build a weber superlead for $625 plus shipping. That's the cheapest I can think of. You could go Ceriatone for around $1,100.

Or you can go completely from scratch, which takes A LOT of patience, but it is really rewarding. There is a guy on this forum taking preorders for a 69 style chassis right now with front and back plates.

Valvestorm makes it even easier by having a whole parts list for the build.

But if you don't want to build, then going with the bugera isn't a bad idea.

Good luck!

I'm curious as to the build quality inside the Bugera. Is it an amp that can be easily modded?
