Bluesbreaker RI mod review

Post by VelvetGeorge » Sat Jul 24, 2004 12:49 pm

Eric asked me to post this review of his BB RI after being rebuilt with all Heyboer trannies, PTP board, correct filter caps and KT-66's.

Hey George,
>
> Here is the first review of the jtm45, you should put these in
your
>forums. The first impression that I got from the amp was that it felt
and
>sounded like that $6000 vintage bluesbreaker just not with the worn in
>feel. It was like a new pair of shoes. The second thing I noticed was
the
>clean sound was to die for! Complex glassy tones pop right out
blooming and
>fatten up with rich harmonic cllipping the harder you press into it.
Upon
>turning the volume up, those wonderful cleans started grinding into an
>almost three demensional overdrive in which everynote almost took on
their
>own personality.(so responsive!) In playing with feed back tricks
there are
>alot of sweet spots which I discovered on accident. Divebombs, dieing
amp,
>fifties sci fi sounds, banshee warbles even e bow like licks come
moving
>the guitar up and down the speakers! DAMN!!! This amp is alive!
>
> The second thing I noticed was that upon hitting the highest
note on
>the fretboard there was no wanning or dieing out.It just cut right
thru the
>mix like it had something to prove! A quality that dare I say,
Matchless
>and Badcats have lacked. Back off the volume and it goes right back to
that
>glassy shimmer. I got a good sound pretty much where ever I set the
knobs.
>Make no mistake this amps has personality and wants to be punished!
When
>that happens you can hit it soft and it purrs. Guitarist just don't
get it
>with with their three channel stacks! This and a good pedal you can
get
>everything you need . On comparison with the reissue, they are in the
same
>ball park, but the reissue could'nt hold a candle to the complexity
and
>richness and alive like quality.

in
>later!
>Very killer George! Erik Adams
Check out Plexi Replicas for my personal amp builds...

Right on! I suspect this means that the KT66's do in fact fit in the Bluesbreaker RI cabinet. I wonder what speakers he's using... I've got G12H30s' in mine, which really match up well. Can't wait to get going on my Bluesbreaker. George, my paypal transfer is supposed to go through on Monday (I was hoping it would go through today, but I'll have to be patient I guess), so I'll email you as soon as it's ready.

My Rickenbacker 12 string already loves this amp (instant early Who sound), so I am excited to hear the combiantion after I do the board, tranny, KT66's. "Three dimensional" sounds like something that will go very well with the 12 string.
