but wait, wait wait.. NOW I GOTTA TRY THAT MASTER VOLUME MOD.
Hey get this. In 86 I was front row in LA at the Forum and eddies guy came out with the frankenstrat. He was noodleing around and then he hit a little switch ON THE GUITAR and the gain doubled.. what up?
I ask all this in fun because I am one of the guys who beleives its like 90% him. Resonant frequencies of a hand etc. lol

Very very interesting. Now another piece to the weird mystery or is it already at enigma status that is the whole EVH myth. Onboard active guitar preamp. That is very doable on ANY guitar even without a miniswitch. Which would in fact kick the crap out of the front end of an amp. I am even going to get one of these for my guitars in a few weeks. I plan on having it installed to a push pull pot that will act as my tone pot. When the pot is pushed in the preamp will be on, pull the pot out it turns off. I need my gain more than others, so I am having it wired backwards to the on off feature. All I do is drop it in the guitar and wire the pot up to the rest of the control.jerrydyer wrote:but wait, wait wait.. NOW I GOTTA TRY THAT MASTER VOLUME MOD.

Yeah, I'll have one of those Booster Units of Doom on my handmade MCS guitar as well. It'll be an on/off mini switch, and I'll have another mini switch to turn the "cap" mod on/off. I'm interested in seeing what it will do to a 2203!!Necrovore wrote:Very very interesting. Now another piece to the weird mystery or is it already at enigma status that is the whole EVH myth. ?
what? I wasnt saying that he had that circuit in his guitar, I was just saying that I think those are diodes on the back of one of the masters and I think Mark confirmed. The whatever he had in his guitar in 86 ...? might have been a p u selector as to he still had a single in the neck right? Curios what circuit are guys referring too. Try the stratoblastor.

Re: ?
That would be Neal Moser's booster that he designed and that BC Rich used in their early days to the 80's before they started using that "bullet" preamp.jerrydyer wrote:what? Re: ?
It's just a booster. Neal says its a times 10 boost. Alot of people seem to like it over on the MCS board.jerrydyer wrote:what is it? if i were going to go that route I would use the stratoblaster circuit

Jerry, Neal's booster is nothing more than either a FET or Opamp style preamp you add to the guitar circuit. Supposed to sound good and remove the need for a drive pedal.
Your post made me think of EVH using a on board preamp on his guitar,w hich would easily be "hidable". It also might explain a bit of his drive levels he can get with a Superlead, as they always seem to be a tad gainier than from what I or others I have heard can pull out of a stock SL. It is always one of those oh so close type deals. Maybe an onboard preamp on his guitar helps. Just a theory.

ok
10-4 If he did use those switchable master volume mods on that Jose schem then the diodes woiuld explian a little bit of the gain clip.

NO#1 For the Guitar on board Active boosts
After playing the Eric Clapton strat with onboard 25db Boost.
I wanted something similar so I found a Bartollini TC-3 .
If I was even playing a slighlty overdriven amp the 25+ db of output put me into Very High gain territory .
Even more than OD pedals
I could get up on Jam nights & rip it up into average sounding amps
& people are scratching there heads thinking how did you get that amp so scream ?? LOL
Im on the look out for something better
these look interesting

Stratoblaster, Alembec Stratoblaster is what the old schoolers threw into their guitars way back. Its a killer little circuit its like 3 res and to caps and a transistor. There is nothing new under the sun its all been done. We just rehash the good stuff and that ones it.
