metaltronix m-1000
just picked up one of these heads.anyone have any mods they can share? theres a layout here on the forum i saw.i would like to goose the gain up a bit.maybe take out the flubby bass and mess with the values on the mid shift. they are either really high or really low to my ears.

Can you post some gut shots inside the chassis?

Are you crazy ?tpruitt wrote:...i would like to goose the gain up a bit...
Answers some of 1st quote;tpruitt wrote:...maybe take out the flubby bass...
You can either use ALL 4 EL34's or pull 2 and drop to 8Ω's for "insanity" gain
E34L's to tame or use 6550's for a more clean and more head room (less compressed) sound.
The louder I went, the 6550's did the trick.
2 - EL34's @ 50watts for lower distortion/crunch volumes with the virtual attenuator...
I personally prefer his other series.
This amp is complicated in pulling tones. Thus the mid shift feature you mentioned.
There are soo many combo's you can do for the sound, yet it's like a one-trick pony...
This is THE MOST pissed off amp I know and it's meaner than a KrAnK.

Re: metaltronix m-1000
I'll post some pics tomorrow.
Yeah I must be nuts lol.to me the gain is lacking.it needs juiced up.
The bass blows in this amp.the mids are great though.
I tried 6550 and went back to el34's.I don't think pulling two tubes will do much.maybe cut the volume a little.

The gain is lacking? I thought it was supposed to be a gain beast? That's what Paul Gilbert used to use, right?

Re: metaltronix m-1000
Lmao.if you think the m1000 is a GAIN beast you need to get out of the 70's "man"!!
Gilbery, lynch, and wylde may have played them.but they used distortion pedals to boost them.
I'm just asking if anyone has experience with the m1000 so I don't need a pedal.
Now unplug that 8 track with lepplin playing and find a old ozzy cd with zakk wylde playing guitar..that's the sound "I" like!

Re: metaltronix m-1000
heh heh
nah but seriously I think the amp head is broken. It should be ripping your face off without a pedal. What's the cab ? and loaded with?
Do you have the manual and footswitch. Are you posting pic's of your own amp ?
Even farther back, I think of Akira when I think of this stack.
I think more ADA MP1 rackmount for Pablo. That worked better for him near that era.
The M series was short-lived. ...wonder why ?
I'd rather have Lee's XLA/XLS ( the 50watt was killer stock with a SuperStrat)
or *solidstate SS & VH series Ampeg's. These were good amps, dare I say *s*****e on this forum...

Re: metaltronix m-1000
I'll post picks but it's just like what you posted without the two Orange drops.
I've tried three sets of tubes.not a big change. No foot switch. Its loud..both gains on ten is just a little dirtier than a jcm.

Those things should have a LOT more gain than a 2203 circuit, I would think.

Re: metaltronix m-1000
Ugry! Velly velly Ugry! Except the picture of the cat! I like Siamese cats.
Seriously though the amp should have quite a bit more gain than a 2203 when using its highest gain setting or channel if you can call it that. Don't get me wrong it's not going to have as an aggressive amount as an engl or anything like that, but certainly more than 1976! I would run all the basic diagnostics through it honestly.
All that said, PG boosted and even put compressors through the loop of those on tours, and used all sorts of other crap on the albums during the time he endorsed those, so I wouldn't use him as an example of how those things should sound out of the box.
