Hi everyone,
I've decided to go ahead and replace the electrolytics in my 2 100w plexis from the 67/68 period. I've decided to go with RIFA 32uf caps on the screens and ARS for the phase inverter cans. One amp has an internal preamp filter so I'll put 2 RIFA 32uf caps there and the other will get an ARS can. I think I'll put BC 10uf 200v caps in the bias. I have several options it seems for the 100uf internal caps and I'm not sure which is best. Seems some avoid the axial f@t 100uf caps in leau of using the f@t cans on the board. I can't find any Royal67 caps which are highly regarded. Another option would be Rifa 47uf caps in parallel. Can someone please recommend a high quality cap scheme that sounded great from experience?
Thanks
Jan

Re: Best choice for internal filter caps 100uf?
Hey Janalex
I have a metro 1200 series that I built and I originally had the two 33uf Rifa and two of the 100uf Royal 67 caps on the filter cap board, but then switched the Royals out with two NOS 100uf Erie and they sounded better then the Royals. Unfortunately, this was a few years ago so I can't really remember how they sounded better but the thing that sticks in my head is that they made my amp sound more "vintage", if that makes any sense. Check out Valvestorm he has them. That would be my suggestion

I recently switched the royals for LCRs on a 69 1959, preferring the latter

Re: Best choice for internal filter caps 100uf?
I was able to get a deal on both 33 and 47uf rifas. I figured since the 33s stayed in there for you guys, the 47 should sound just as good and effectively they are 50uf caps within tolerance specs. I also saw a pic online of someone with the 6 rifas on the cap board and it looked cool. I'll also see if I could fit a pair of 33s in the preamp section of the super bass. Thanks for the recommendation on the Eires. If something sounds off that's my next option.

I was just going to suggest you went with the 47uF Rifas

Awesome! That's the pic I was drooling over! I could do the preamp eire but I try the rifas first. I got extra.

some also like 220uf main caps (some originals had 200uf caps)

Re: Best choice for internal filter caps 100uf?
My order of the 47uf RiFa caps fell through. Instead I noticed that ARS makes 100uf axials on their website so I went with those. Since their cans are well regarded for transparency I don't see why the axials wouldn't be. So ARS mains and PI and rifas in the preamp and screens. Hope it rocks.
