I find mustard smoothest
Old Sozos ok, Mallories ok, not tried new Sozo
In the UK 0.0022uF mustards are quite cheap - 0.022uF 400v are expensive

I think a 5000pF bypass cap on the volume pot might be too much if you plan on running the amp clean. I would start with something smaller like a 100pF - 500pF and go from there. I also agree that a 0.0022uF decoupling cap for the Bright channel will help.

We agree on clean tones, I just said what I thought it sounded best at

Sozo's .0022uf ordered! I'll put that in and see how it sounds, leaving the bright cap out for now...
I remember now that the amp has a 500pf in it but I snipped it at one end and left it hanging... It was just too harsh sounding....
Really, really! appreciate the help guys, everything I've done to this amp is from stuff I've gleaned from this forum... I was gutted when Metro went offline for a while, so happy it's back...
The tone quest continues!... I'll report back On how much of a difference this one cap'll make...
Best regards,
Steve

Re: Unicord 50 watter 1970 schematic?
Just wanted to report back on this....
Put the .022 in and,... Far out what a difference!!!
Immediately, I didn't think it had done much at all but as I continued playing And my ears tuned in I realised how together it sounded! Suddenly it was like my bass had decided to join the party and was part of the eq ( if that makes sense)
All my pedals, especially my dirt, suddenly sounded more focused and together...
It's also made me realise that, damn!, this amp is one sweet sounding machine! Still gobsmacked that changing one component could effect the whole so much...
Anyway, there you go...
Steve

The amp will sound even better once the 2n2 cap breaks in.

The high end will 'smooth out' for lack of a better term.
