Bogner Ecstasy 101B Boost

Post by berumen77 » Sun Apr 01, 2018 7:47 pm

I have a Bogner XTC 101B amp and I'm trying to tweak the unboosted tone. Basically, when the boost is turned off a relay connects a 100K(R66) parallel .001cap(C224) to ground parallel with a 500K. The sound is just a little too dull on the unboosted tones (some guys call it chewy) and I'd like to get it a bit more defined. Is there some formula that Bogner used to arrive at these component values or is it just trial and error to find them. Some guys have removed the C224 cap but that's just way too bright. Here's a simplified schematic of the front end to show the parts in question, it actually has a voltage divider after the gain knobs which makes it sound/respond different than say a JCM800. The boosted tone is great rips. It's the unboosted tone that I think makes a lot of players think the amps are dark/dull sounding. Let me know what you think. Is this as simple as adding a resistor in series with R66/C224 to the relay/ground?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, a little late but...…..try lowering the value of c224 to 500pf/250pf so there is less signal to ground.
