Marshall Silver Jubilee 2550 Electrolytic Filter Caps

Post by JD » Mon Sep 10, 2018 11:45 am

Hi all. Haven't been doing much amp repair and modification work for a long time but I'm back.

I have an old 1980s Silver Jubilee head that doesn't get much use. Last power on she didn't want to wake up quickly. The volume seemed to fluctuate for awhile until good and warmed up. I have good reason to believe the tubes are all ok and suspect it might be time to proactively replace some of the key electrolytic caps.

I'm still comfortable doing the soldering work and know how to work on amps (e.g. discharging the filter caps). What I'd like the forum's input on is the following:

1. Should I proactively replace electrolytic caps?
2. If so, which ones?
3. Does the aftermarket offer exact replacements (physical size and value)?
4. Recommendation where to buy?

Any input would be appreciated!

Nothing wrong with ARS or F&T caps
Three 50uF/50uF cans on the 50w I believe.
IIRC the ARS are ever so slightly skinnier than the originals so might need a wrap of tape around them for the cap mounting brackets to hold them tightly enough.

Thanks. F&T seems to be popular around the interweb.

What about the two larger 160V 10uF caps?
