Scored a box of tubes today

Post by VelvetGeorge » Thu Feb 19, 2009 5:16 pm

Got a bunch of tubes in a box today. Lots of 5U4's. Some 5Y3's. Plenty of 12AT7 and 12AU7's. Haven't tested anything yet, but almost all are NOS.

I pulled the NOS Mullard EF86! And (3) XF2 Mullard EL34's!

Yes, I did a happy dance. :D

Do I see a 5Y4GT rectifier in there? I restored a '37 Philco for my parents that uses the 5Y4 and they're a bitch to find, can't remember if I've found a replacement yet after the original blew.........

Yeah, I grabbed a few of those. I thought they were a higher current rated version of a 5Y3. Perfect for beefy Champs etc. I'll have to look it up.

I'll send you a 5Y4.

I don't show the 5Y4 as a sub for the 5Y3, but I don't have the specs in front of me either. Danke Schoen for the 5Y4 though!!

Yep, that is an odd one. I love those Magnavox amps though. They look great in the living room!

I don't have any, but can get you one. They're pretty expensive. About $50.

Still have the 12AV7. And I restored my old Hickok 533A tester so I can test all these.

Let me know if you need it.

I got the VTV tester today and put the 12AV7 in there. It tests very well at 112/113 for the triodes. No microphonics.

Unfortunately, they paired up perfectly with my existing pair of XF-2's to make a brilliant quad. Sorry.
