Playing for a few hours this weekend. V4 has a dark tint to the glass now. Started getting some serious red plating on V5. I mean it was GLOWING!!! Trannys seemed normal temp.
Decrease in volume and some snap crackly pops. Shut it down. Waited an hour. Turned it back on for a few mintes, seemed fine.
I'll give it a go again and see if I can replicate with photo's or maybe video. Not sure the KT77's are really great for wide open.
Time to check all the voltages I guess.

Are you biasing to the hottest tube still? You are really mean to your tubes, didn't you blow a hole in the ceiling with a tube last year?

Yeah. Thats the same position (V5) I blew the 6CA7 into the ceiling. It's been good ever since. I thought it was the tube but there must be more to it. I'll do up a voltage chart most likely. The KT77's sound thin and much brighter than other tubes. I think thats why guys like them for metal.
I havent hade this thing on the bench in quite a while.

Vid. Not sure why its rotated. I had to cut it down to under 2Mbs to fit here.
I'm just kinda banging away on the strings to see when it occurs. I think Im playing Dream Theater or something on the playback.
This is after about 5 minutes.
Would you guys like me to TAB that out for ya!

It looks like a Star Trek transporter beam.

OOOOH AHHHHHH, have they come for us at last?
Re-flow everything in the neighborhood or try a new socket.

Yeah, good thing its not in a headbox, because I wouldnt have seen it doing that.
I'm going to check all the voltages, move the tubes around. When it lights up there is a slight decrease in the volume and then it comes back up.
I never really knew what redplating looked like until I saw this. It looks purple in the vid a pic but its actually a bright orange/red glow.
Why do I find this exciting?

very pretty!!!!
Mine did that a while ago, the tubes wasn't seated well in the socket. However, since you were playing for 5 mins....not sure. Is this the same amp and socket that shot the tube through the ceiling?

No. This something new. It's V6. The explosion was V5. That glass on the tube at V5 has turned a dark smoke color. On the bench doing some investigative work today.
