Hi everyone. I have been doing a lot of youtube listening to 68 marshall plexis. It seems that the majority are listed as a 68 superbass. Are there distinct 68 superbass and super lead circuits? Or is the 68 just commonly refered to as a superbass? Just curious bc I would like to build one.

Thanks,
Brandon

Super Bass and Super Lead are variations on a similar circuit for many years.

Super Bass - Dwayne Allman

Super Lead - Angus Young

Both can be from 1968 or built to '68 specs...or later years.

Google and learn! Tons to research and that is half the fun. Look at schematics and layouts.

Same tone, 50 vs 100. Bass spec amp.

Look at a lead spec and bass spec schematic or layout. A couple of key changes.

It's all out there keep looking. Google lead spec vs bass spec Marshall.

Thanks for the input. I do know the key differences between superbass and super lead. My question may be stated better like this, "are there any differences in a 68 superbass compared to 69 superbass or later?"

BTW, although the 50 watt and 100 watt bass version share the exact same preamp, they will not sound exactly the same. 100 watt models don’t offer the compression of a 50 watt head

The '68 should sound almost the same as most 69's (Jan - Oct) since the only real difference is a bit more filtering. Around 1970 they changed the nfb resistor from 27K to 47K (from the speaker jacks) so these amps should sound a bit "dirtier". I believe in late '71 they changed the nfb setup again this time going with the 47K resistor from the 8 ohm tap.

Yes, your question is a lot more clear now.
