Post by gerry113377 » Sun Aug 28, 2016 3:24 pm

Can someone tell me the minimum wattage I need for each potentiometer? I will be also adding a master volume so I need the wattage of that too. Presence, bas, mid, tre, bri vol, norm vol, master vol. Thank you.

The original CTS/AB were half-watt for linear tapers and quarter-watt for audio tapers. The larger RS pots were one-watt or two-watt depending upon the source sited.

Parts of yesteryear were over spec I think. I'm guessing new 1/2 watt Alphas or CTS would be todays equivalent. Look at Iskra 1/2 watts.. those are the size of modern 1 watt Carbon Film resistors.

The wattage going through those pots are so small you can use pretty much any pot available. Even a tiny trimpot would be no problem.

I'm sure Marshall used the half-watt rating for safety reasons...Just in case an upstream component failed (like a de-coupleing cap) which might end up dumping higher than normal voltage to the pot.
