1987 Rectifier?

Post by revolver1 » Tue Aug 29, 2017 6:33 am

Here's a question that leads on from my Mallory 150 post but I thought I'd better start a new thread.

So I want to build a 1987 and will be using a repro Drake 1202-118 PT.

I wanted to use diodes for the rectifier but I'm a bit confused over whether to do a bridge rectifier like on the 100w or if I need to do it with just two diodes? If so how exactly is the two diode set up done?

no need for a voltage doubler, just one diode connected to each secondary

Thanks Roe.

I had seen a 71 amp that had 2 sets of 3 diodes in series, also another amp that had what looked like 2 sets of 2 diodes in series. Is that just to increase the voltage handling? Whats going on there?

Diodes in series increases the overall voltage handling capabilities. The normal rectifier circuit for the 1987 is two sets of two diodes in series. Check out amparchives for examples.

Thanks Tazin, that makes sense. Just wanted to be sure I understood.
