Can I order 1969 specs Metro?

Post by Purple Haze » Thu Jan 06, 2011 11:44 am

Hello everybody :)
Im newbie here :) Happy new year, guys!

I'm a playing Hendrix songs for a fev years. i'm in love with his tone. Now I'm looking for amp, that can be a period-correct for late Hendrix. Maybe 68-70's.

10000 series? It bad choise for me?
Maybe I need to looking for a 12000 series?

12000 series is a '68 era?

Please, tell me differences about 68 and 69 Marshalls :)

Not 50 watters, not aluminum panels. Only plexis.

Also, I ned an information bout "polarity switch". Is 69 Marshalls has this switch? (I saw this switch on Hendrix' amps on Woodstock film) or its was a custom option?

Thanks :) Sorry for a lots of stupid questions :)

All very good questions! The I'm building a replica of the Woodstock amp for someone right now, it's not the 12,000 series but the version of Superlead after. All six filter caps are on top of the chassis and has a bridge rectifier mounted near the power transformer. I'll post pics when it's done.

The polarity switch can be installed, but not wired-it can deliver 120V AC directly to you if the switch is set incorrectly.

Wow, its a very interesting.
Please tell me, a "Woodstock Amp" its a serial '69 Marshall? Its not a '68, as I see.

Does the polarity switch affecting the tone or not? I hae completely nothing about this feature.

Thanks!

In the Electric Gypsy book there is a list of serial numbers of amps that Hendrix bought in late '68. I can't say for certain that one or more of these amps is definitely being used at Woodstock, but the amps there appear to be from that era or possibly early to mid '69.

The polarity switch does not affect tone.

The '69 spec is the basis for the HW1959 which my example was modded for me by George:
