LA Amp Show 2011
A very cool moment at the 2011 LA Amp Show. Pete Thorn A/B/Cing a Suhr 100w head (not sure which one) vs. two different Metro-Friedman 100w heads ( one with modern components, one with vintage components).
By the time this pic was taken George and Dave had Pete playing through all 3 heads (3 cabs).
Super loud! and very cool!

Yeah, that was nuts, huh? I was there in stealth mode, no Scumback T-shirt on.

Sorry, Jimmy. You can't hide!!!!!
I guess that was Sunday? wish I heard that. Pete is a awesome player and both Metro-Freidmans sounded killer. I prefered the one with the mustards myself.

That's the before pic...they did daisy chain them shortly afterwards and Pete had all three heads and three cabs going at once. It was...uh...intense.leadguy wrote:Daisy chain those heads together and Rock On.

Re: LA Amp Show 2011
Pretty sure that is all 3 heads at once (you can see the wires connecting the inputs)... The pic is a little weird because you cannot see all three power lights (they are all on)... you can see Pete trying to get out of the line of fire!
Everyone decided that 3 did not sound as good as just 2 amps... my ears were already messed up from the flight in... after this, my hearing did not come back til the next morning!

Re: LA Amp Show 2011
There were 3 heads for a minute, but I agree two sounded better. It was punchier. Pete is the best! His Suhr sounded great too, like a replica of a plexi with more low mids and more sag.
The show was great overall. Kinda brutal since Dave was supposed to come help but was sick in the hospital. Fortunately many friends came around to help. Thanks, you know who you are!
I got a lot of video from Saturday that I need to edit down. I'll try to get to that this weekend.
The Metro-Friedman amp that Dave and I collaborated on got a great reception. We might make one final tweak, but it's basically finished. I'll get details up today or tomorrow. Hope to have some clips too.
My red eye flight home was terrible and I was delayed with my connecting flight, so travel home sucked. Sleep was non-existent (which is becoming the norm) but I'm back in the shop today. trying to regroup and get on track.

Re: LA Amp Show 2011
I found the idea of a Metro-Friedman amplifier very pleasing to see- two of the best minds currently in this genre collaborating for the sake of benefit to all of us tone-seekers. Bet it sounds great... What exactly is it?

In all honesty THE closet thing to the "magic Marshall" I have heard. And Geo and Dave have a verrrry good reference to the standard.....

2 heads are better than 1.
The Metro-Friedman amp sounds interesting.

Sounds like it could be what we've all been waiting 30 years for since "Fair Warning" came out...
(no, I don't mean the new VH album- even though it's been pretty much the same amount of time... )
