This is a cool mod. I tried it with a DSD and I could get a lot of tonal versatility from just one humbucker.

the best part of that mod is that it mimics VH's "broken" PAF
his pu still worked but the one coil was not at full power after he damaged it and this spin a split allows you to dial in how much of the one coil to cut out.
works great on a duncan Custom Custom. it gets the fresno tone easily as well as this tone

What all is involved with this mod? Is it just a matter of putting a 2nd pot on one of the coils and adjust to taste? Would you use a 250K for the single coil?

Yes all it takes is a pot to dial in the split, there is a diagram on Seymour Duncans page. I'd use 500k volume pot and 250k spin a split pot but thats me. Experimenting with values might be needed.

I have tried that seymour Duncan pot to turn down a coil on both the evh Frankenstein pickup and the motor city second degree black belt.its a cool experiment but I like the pickups with both coils working the best ...

And I still love my custom mismatched coils pickup.

I turn the one coil of a duncan CC down to 8-1/2 on the pot and it sounds awesome.
,makes the CC have a much better clarity and definition.
has that single coil attack but fatter.
