This is the way that I have always played that part, and it kinda looks like it is the same way that Eddie is doing it on the video
.

^ Cool thanks. Such a cool sounding riff. It's the same with ATBL, don't know how he gets that "wow-ing" sound, don't how to put it in words.

Re: Drop Dead Legs video
Something similar to Page's Out on the Tiles lick.
quick TAB:
-----------------------------x----
-----------------------------3----
-----------------------------0----
-----------0----------------x----
----------------3⤴5-3/5-\3-----
---6h7---------------------x-----
__d____d___d________d___
Not so easy to explain the feel... Someone with more patience, perhaps.
choking that 3 bend after reaching the 5. Then starting on the 3, sliding back up to the 5 again.
- before resolving on the chord. Might take getting used to with a little hand strength.
edit: added chord

I'm glad we finally put the whammy idea to rest. He played the '58 V on that song (which, along with HFT & GGB) is the best tone he's ever had.

Yeah, I always had the open D string note along with a bend. Very bluesy.garbeaj wrote:donnyboiler has it transcribed correctly earlier in this thread:

Re: Drop Dead Legs question
The outtro was recorded completely separately from the rest of the song. And the lead is the Frank. I don't know what the other two guitars are (riff near the nut and PCTS style chording).hammered wrote:I`ve always heard whammy in the solordodson wrote:I'm glad we finally put the whammy idea to rest. Re: Drop Dead Legs question
Looks to me like Ed plays it slightly different. The chords are different than Donny's tab. Everything seems right, he just adds a couple of notes on the top end. Here's a good video.

Re: Drop Dead Legs question
However Eddie played it on the reunion tours doesn't really impact how he is playing it on the record. Seeing the way he plays it can point in the direction of how it was played on record, but a live situation contains differences owing to many factors that aren't present during recording. In fact, riffs on recordings are sometimes incredibly consistent because the recording might repeat punch-ins of the same segment during the entirety of the recording.
I use the live videos as another tool to help me understand the recordings, but I try not to think that what is played live is necessarily what was played on the recording.
As far as the recording of "Drop Dead Legs" goes, I stand by donnyboiler's transcription.

Re: Drop Dead Legs question
Agree. Apparently Ed had to re-learn a lot of his own stuff and for sure doesn't play everything like he used to.
At it awhile, still learnin'
