Which STOCK current production (and easily obtainable in the UK) amp for under £1600 do you think gives the best VH1/Fair Warning sound?
I'm talking about amps that I can easily order online and have delivered next day (UK) - no waiting for months/years.
There is very little choice in the music shops local to me.
I would love a Metropoulos/Granger/Ceriatone/etc. but with the Marshall Vintage Modern and Satriani sounding so good (thanks Don) and readily available, I think they're viable inexpensive alternatives.
I've listed a few possible contenders (or maybe not - I've never played any of them) with some typical prices:
All comments welcome.
Bugera 1960 Infinium - £351.73
EVH 5150 III 50W - £829.00
Marshall 2466B Vintage Modern 100W Head with Black Covering - £895.00
Marshall 2203KK Kerry King Signature Amplifier - £899.00
Marshall 1987X - £961.00
Marshall 1959RR Randy Rhodes Signature Head - £1213.00
Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Series 100W Tube Head - £1260.00
Marshall 1959SLP Vintage Series 100W Tube Head - £1336.00
Marshall JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head - £1399.00
Marshall YJM100 Yngwie Malmsteen Signature Head - £1484.00
Marshall 1959HW 100w Classic Valve - £1530.00
If you own one of these or have just tried it out someplace, please let me know what you think.
And of course, if I haven't listed your favourite, don't hesitate to say.

Here's what donnyboiler thought:
Thanks Don.donnyboiler wrote:My comments:
Marshall 2466B Vintage Modern 100W Head with Black Covering - £895.00 Awesome but not enough bass in HDR unless you add it in post production.
Marshall JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head - £1399.00 This is the winner for me in this price bracket. Don't think of it as a Satch amp, think of it as the best and most flexible Marshall in years. Likes to be loud though.
Marshall JVM 410H 100W Head - £1116.00 Not even close. Wrong feel although the distortion grain is there.
Marshall 2203KK Kerry King Signature Amplifier - £899.00 Don't know but I'm not convinced.
Marshall 1959RR Randy Rhodes Signature Head - £1213.00 Same
Marshall 1987X - £961.00 Beats everything if you can crank it!
Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Series 100W Tube Head - £1260.00 Wrong amp for the job.
Marshall 1959SLP Vintage Series 100W Tube Head - £1336.00 See 1987X
Marshall 1959HW 100w Classic Valve - £1530.00 See above
EVH 5150 III 50W - £829.00 I have one of these. It's an awesome one-box solution. Set Blue channel for Fair Warning and red channel for VH1, and off you go. No post production, no booster, and you don't even need to crank it. The catch is it's 6L6 and feels too modern under the fingers.
Bugera 1960 Infinium - £351.73 Don't know.

If you can convince this guy to ship to the UK this would be your answer:

Have someone build you a clone of a plexi with ppimv. Should easily be able to do it under 1600.

+1
You could grab a used 2203 or 2204 there for alot cheaper than you can here, since your from where they were/are made (England). Have a local tech install a ppimv (lar/mar) and your pretty much there. You could go to the 'EVH amp spec' thread and print out the circuit board pics of the Mod5 amps there. There are certain component values going on to 'perfect' this circuit (Mod5, which is essentially a 2203/2204, which is(2203/2204 that is) a 1959/1987 with the first two gain stages cascaded along with a ppimv). One thing to consider though is that you will have no loop (unless you get a newer 2203/2204 reissue or the KKing, RRhoades sig), so if your into digital reverbs/delays, etc, you may want a 'new' design type of amp, like the newer Marshalls you mentioned.
