Mr. Farva, I would try the EVH signature flanger first. The little EVH button really does nail the Unchained sweep. Then you can de-select that and move around for some other flanging tones. I have a very early MXR flanger as well as the gray re-issue, and the EVH Flanger. The main difference to me is that the vintage MXR flanger has a milder flanging effect. It is much more subtle. I think all 3 are useable. The newer EVH flanger is just a faster way to get your flange tones if you are doing the Van Halen thing.

The funny thing about the vintage MXR Phase 90s and the vintage MXR Flangers is that they really aren't that expensive versus getting a clone that almost sounds like a vintage MXR product.
Really, if you want to get THE sound of these boxes, just buy the vintage ones. They are usually readily available on eBay or Reverb.com and they are every bit as reliable as brand new clones.
