6402 Question. HELP!
Okay, so I'm scouring eBay and I find a listing for a $99 early 90's ('91-'92) 16ohm 75hz greenback from the UK, but no cone pic. I e-mail the guy asking if he's seen the speaker cone code on it, and he said there seem to be no markings on it, but they were bought by a previous owner in either '91 or '92. I'm asking him for pics, but I need y'all's advice: if there is no code on the cone, would you believe it to be a 6402 or a recone? He said he never had them reconed, so I'm so curious.

Re: 6402 Question. HELP!
The cones marked with the 6402 # varied. Some were very large, some were small. I'm afraid it's a crap shoot. But there should be a marking on the cone somewhere if it's a real 6402 cone.

Sean, if you want me to email him pm me the details. Not seen any 6402's for sometime on ebay.
The stamp could be up by the spider or behind a chassis leg.

Never mind lol, the listing was taken down. Either he was lying or someone hungrier than I snatched it upjape88 wrote:Sean, if you want me to email him pm me the details. Not seen any 6402's for sometime on ebay.

Sean, check your email. I just sent you a 6402 cone pic so you know what the small ones look like. The large ones were huge, as in 1 inch tall. Didn't find any of those, sorry.

Re: 6402 Question. HELP!
Not mine, I had the pic in my files, tbh I've hardly ever seen the large code ones in the UK!
You've got me curious with this guys ebay ad did he send any pics or give you the frame codes?

Re: 6402 Question. HELP!
If looking for 6402s, little known fact is that cabs in the original Carvin Vai Legacy series have 6402s. I have 4 in an original 4x12 got off Clist years ago. Can check by removing jack plate. No one really wants those cabs so a sneaky deal...but now everyone knows! lol

Re: 6402 Question. HELP!
I'm moving a quartet of 6402 greenbacks into another cabinet, from a 1960AX cab that I'm going to re-grille/brace/upgrade handles.
Mine are stamped on the back of the cone like Jape's picture, but the white numbers are only about 3/16" tall, with the bottom half of the '6' flaked off (or rubbed off, or poor stamp).
I'm loading them into my old '69 angled cab, since it had crap speakers when I got it. Glad to hear these are considered to sound good. They say 'MADE IN ENGLAND' in raised lettering on the plastic magnet covers. I see what I think you are referring to as the 'frame code'- it's a long sequence of letters/digits, right?
