uh.....I hate to be critical of a guitar player that can I'm sure play circles around me, but he's nowhere near the groove of that song.
Mitch and the rest of the band.....pretty good.

Sounds like a fish out of water on that tune. Agree - the rhythm section was good. I'm The One is a hard tune guitar-wise, solely for the bouncy feel.
his solo stuff http://www.aswaters.com highlights his comfort zone.

Makes me once again amazed that Ed used to run around the stage while playing that stuff. Made it look so easy...still does....
At it awhile, still learnin'

Re: Tristan Avakian ?
Wow. It is a hard song for most to pull off. I never really understood why, but everyone says it is the swing. Even when I didn't have the notes 100% right, I think I was always able to get the timing and general feel no problem.
That said, wjamflan knows how to play the notes correctly...as usual, he recently corrected my long standing misunderstanding of what is actually going on in the ascending licks during the first couple of fills and the beginning of the first solo.
"I'm The One" is just as important as "Eruption" to figure out correctly when it comes to really understanding Ed's style.
