Please help authenticate my 1987x!!!

Post by luhmanniac » Wed Sep 17, 2008 8:58 am

I'm brand new to this forum. I recently bought a 50W Plexi clone on Ebay from a guy who informed me that is a custom built from Metro. As he wrote:
It was a special order amp from metroamps. Cost an arm and
leg to get it built by them but it pays off in tone. So its not a kit,
its a special build of a 68 Marshall 50w plexi.
However, the board doesn't look like anything I've seen in a Metro amp. Unlike the typical red swirl, it's off-white in color, as you can see from the picture. Before I accuse this person of misrepresenting the amp he sold me, I'd like to know if there are other ways to verify its provenance (the seller didn't include any of the original documentation, which of course I should have asked for...)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely not a Metro, and definitely not built by Metro.
Maybe a Metro member, but it looks to be a Ceriatone chassis and board.
Metro chassis' don't have a voltage selector on the back, or an IEC plug.
Wires going to the pre-sockets aren't the *right* colors.
Board isn't layed out like a Metro, as all the turrets on the "pot" side of the board should be in line.
Rectification, snubber caps, probably a Ceriatone kit-pack, minus the Trannies.
Has the valve retainers that Ceriatone uses as well.

Ceriatone all the way.
Deffinately a Ceriatone Chassis and board. 100%

Not that that is neccessarily a bad thing, depends on what you paid for it. The MM trannies would cost a pretty penny when new.
Whats written on the two 10uf bias caps? Hollygrail? Thats another easy way to tell if they werent swapped out like the preamp filters look to have been.

Also the brass buss wire between the pots and the board is a dead giveaway.
