I dont know if Id say a NMV has less treble. Its got just as much cut since Im assuming youll have to g for the 69. There just 2 different sounds. You wouldnt think that one thing would change the amps character so much but it does. Im assuming youve tried everything to kill the excess treble?

Having the single bright channel isnt a bad idea. You could have both channel and just internally jumper them so that both volumes are active and leaving a channels volume on 0 turns it off.
When I originally converted my 2204 to a 1987 I internally jumpered the channels. Then you can keep the faceplate stock and have the two volumes for infinitely-blendable channels.
You had already changed the treble-peaking spots in the amp, right? (The 470K/470pF combination between the inputs, etc.?) You could always try a bigger cap on the phase inverter plates to kill some high end, I regularly replace the 47pF with a 150pF and have no shortage of treble or sparkle when I need it.

Both inputs are using 68k resisters with no bright cap.I have 2 extra .1 sozos that i may use to replace the 2 .022 on the pi.I may also try that cap from 47 to 150 on the plates like you suggested Flames.Jason

So... What do you guys like better for straight up metal, a 2203, or a 1959 with the Rich mod?

For metal Id prefer a 2203. For metal just the plain amp probably wont be enough. What I like about 2203's is how you can get so much high gain variety with pedals like ODs, EQs etc...
