Laney Pro Tube 50 (pre aor)retro fit to PTP?

Post by KMC » Fri Jul 29, 2005 12:04 pm

I have a Laney pro tube Fifty combo (pre AOR) 6 knob. I would like
to go PTP with it. It looks like the 50watt Master Volume board may
be the best fit? It seems this amp is based on the Marshall 2204 circuit? My main concern is wiring up the trannies. I can't find a schematic for this
amp anywhere? The AOR curcuit is close, But with more bells and whistes.
Can anyone offer up some tips on a conversion
like this? I have good soldring skills and can follow a layout well. I've
built a few stomp boxes from scratch. I feel I'm ready to move up to the
next level. :D

Thanks! 8) I've been there. No Luck. I think this might be some odd ball
model? It say's PRO TUBE FIFTY Not PRO TUBE 50 ? like the AOR series.
That's my main problem finding a timeline on this amp. Plenty of info
on AOR's and Supergroups and 70's laney's This has got to be early 80's?
Here's some Pics

I used to have one of those exact same combos (no schematic tho) and it is a very good sounding rock amp. Very Sabbath, too. I think I'd just try and restore it and see if I liked it. You can use the 50 or 100 watt Pro Rube schematics with it. A few things might be a little different, but Laney was pretty consistant with the single channel amps.

It is a desent sounding amp. But it's a lil' Bright and grinding sounding
or 80's metal would be a better way to decribe it for my taste. I'm looking
for more a vintage crunch with strong mids and upper mids. I started
restoring/Modding it. I changed the 470pF cap on the input jack to 150 pF
to try to kill of some off the brightness. Also changed the filter cap under
the board from a 50x50 to a 32x32 and Replaced the 2 .o22mF caps in
the tone stock with orange drops. All this helped, But I hit a road block with out a schematic :x There is a metal box by the tone stack That I can't
read the value on? Not even sure what componet it is? A inductor maybe?
Then there is 2 .01 caps ganged together near the PI caps that do not look
stock. Also a bented piece of spring metal above the PI caps. I don't know
if it's a broken trim pot or what. ( I don't even know if this is a fixed bias
amp?) This why I'm considering a metro PTP MV board kit. hears a pic of the inside of my amp B4 I started modding it. Image
